salle1Le Tilia is located in Place du Plaisir Joux, Rhone France. About a 45-minute picturesque drive from the centre of Lyon. The historic village of Joux is renouned for its ancient silver mines, the barrage of the Turdine river, the historic chateau siecle II, and the Tilleul tree.

salle2The restaurants name is derived from the latin for Tilleul or Linden tree; Joux boasts the oldest recorded Tilleul in the region of Lyon, records indicate that the tree is over 500 years old, unusual for a species that rarely survives more than 200 years.

The three storey rectangular salle, constructed from local stone and timbers was built adjacent to the church and chateau. The old salle was central to the Joux community, it served many functions as a meeting place, a church and school kitchen. In 2007 the mayor Guy Hofstetter and the Joux council renovated the structure into a bar and restaurant, whereby Andre Chouvin then was granted tenure.
